Amanda Smith

Amanda Smith is currently a 5th year architectural engineering student at Pennsylvania State University. She will graduate in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree specialized in structural systems along with a Minor in Engineering Mechanics.  Upon graduation she will gain her E.I.T status.  Ms. Smith hopes to join an innovative consulting or AE firm after graduation to gain practical experience and continue on towards her Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Since enrolling at Penn State, Amanda has taken part in two different internship opportunities.  During the summer of 2008, Amanda interned with TRC Worldwide Engineering in York, PA. There she gained knowledge and practice of structural design focused in pre-cast concrete structures, as well as, added to her knowledge of AutoCAD. Most recently she had an internship with Wyatt Incorporated; an Interior Construction company located in Pittsburgh, PA. There she was able to work as a field engineer getting a better understanding of the coordination and construction processes on-site. She is currently continuing her internship with Wyatt by overseeing project progress on-site for the Penn State Millennium Science building on campus while in school.

Both of these experiences have provided her with valuable work experience and insight into the design, construction, and overall building process for a variety of projects. She looks forward to beginning her career as a structural engineer.

Amanda has accepted a structural design position with Gauthier, Alvarado, & Associates in Falls Church, VA. Upon her May 2010 graduation, she intends to start working in June.
